Hardscrabble creek flows south forming a drainage on Hardscrabble Mountain. The claims are staked across known gold bearing areas where previous miners produces 4,936 ounces of placer gold in the late 1800’s. Hardscrabble creek drains across bedrock belonging to the Hardscrabble and Downey successions. These successions form a northwest striking trend or belt of bedrock that is associated with over 1 million ounces of lode gold produced in the Wells area. Almost all of the 2.5 million ounces of placer gold produced in the Wells area locally derived from multiple lode deposits situated along this 40 km long belt of auriferous bedrock.

The 2 Hardscrabble legacy placer claims cover 100 hectares of ground on the lower part of Hardscrabble Creek near its confluence with the Willow River.

Gold produced on the property during the late 1800’s derived mostly from underground workings and less amounts from ground sluicing and hydraulicing. The underground workings were reported by the BC Ministry of Mines as the best prospect for the Caribou Mining District for the 5 year duration of the mine. The mine workings consisted of a shaft about 60 feet deep and a drainage tunnel extending about 1000 feet. This area is located along a wide flat area that can be mined by open pit methods. This area has not been drilled or worked by mechanical equipment and all mining activities remained dormant since the late 1800’s.
